The reason teams drift back to spreadsheets usually isn't training or missing Excel-style flexibility, it's that the rebuild copied the spreadsheet's happy path but not the exceptions it had quietly accreted over years. A finance sheet is full of one-off handling (this entity nets differently, that quarter has a manual true-up) that lives nowhere but the formula, and if discovery didn't surface those, the new model breaks the first time a real edge case hits and people go back to the sheet that could handle it. So the consultant to want is the one whose discovery interrogates the exceptions, not the one with the most platform certifications, since reversion is a symptom of incomplete requirements more than weak enablement.
